Cultivate: Marriage

Experiencing the beauty of marriage in a broken world.

A COMMON STORY

The story is all too common: two well-intentioned people get married, excited about the future, ready for whatever life throws their way. Then life actually happens – and before long things take a different turn. A dirty kitchen becomes a battle ground. The conversations of previous years turn cold and critical. Where closeness was once enjoyed, a chasm begins to grow. Lines begin to get drawn and children become collateral, comparisons are weighed in the balance, and survival becomes the goal.

The brokenness of marriage begins to create new questions: Is this it? Is this the life I have to look forward to? Did I marry the right person? Is this marriage even worth it anymore? In this class we will focus on where these challenges stem from that produce so much conflict.

You're not alone if you've ever had the  thought, "Is this even worth it?"

Finding Beauty

People are damaged in the context of relationships, but people are healed in the context of relationships. Christ brings beauty out of the brokenness.

Finding Beauty

People are damaged in the context of relationships, but people are healed in the context of relationships. Christ brings beauty out of the brokenness.

an uncommon GOD

Jesus is the transformative agent in your marriage.

God gave us marriage as a gift. Through marriage God has given us something to glorify him, but also something that's good for us. Marriage is about being transformed into the image and likeness of Jesus, and learning to freely offer yourself to one another. The conflicts of every marriage stem from many things: unmet expectations, pain from our past, harboring hurt and resentment, or seeking to control and consume one another.

It's only when we realize who Christ is do we let go of these things and begin to experience the beauty of marriage in the midst of our own brokenness. Instead of trying to change our spouse, we can experience freedom by allowing him to change us.

It's so easy to look at the brokenness in your marriage and think it's not worth it – yet in that brokenness and seemingly impossible circumstances, Christ brings about uncommon beauty from that common story.
